-ing 형태가 옵니다.시간을 말할 때는 시점인지 기간인지, 시점이라면 얼마나 좁은지를 먼저 봅니다. 좁은 시점은 at, 날은 on, 넓은 구간은 in 입니다.

팁좁은 것은
at, 중간은on, 넓은 것은in으로 기억합니다. 단 '밤에'는 일반적으로at night이고,in the night는 어느 밤 도중을 뜻합니다. 예: I woke up in the night.

for 뒤에는 길이(3 hours, a week)가 오고, during 뒤에는 사건이나 때(the trip, the summer)가 옵니다.since 뒤에는 시작 시점이 오고, for 뒤에는 기간의 양이 옵니다.by 는 마감, 즉 그때까지 한 번 끝내는 일에 씁니다.until 은 그때까지 계속되는 상태나 행동에 씁니다.from 은 시작점만 말하고, since 는 현재 완료와 함께 씁니다.| 질문 | 답 |

although 와 but 는 한 문장에 함께 쓰지 않습니다. 한국어의 "비록 ~지만" 을 옮길 때 자주 틀립니다.different than 은 틀린 표현이 아니라 미국 영어에서 흔히 쓰는 표준 표현입니다. 격식 글에서는 different from 이 무난하고, 영국식은 different to 도 씁니다.despite 는 이미 "~에도 불구하고" 이므로 뒤에 of 를 붙이지 않습니다.
