Object Particle · 을/를
4. Common mistakes
❌ Mistake 1 — Using 를 after a consonant
✖ 빵를 먹어요.
✔ 빵을 먹어요.빵 ends in the consonant ㅇ, so the object particle must be 을. Always check the bottom of the last syllable block before you choose.
❌ Mistake 2 — Using 을 after a vowel
✖ 커피을 마셔요.
✔ 커피를 마셔요.커피 ends in a vowel, so it takes 를. This mistake is the mirror of Mistake 1, and it is just as common.
❌ Mistake 3 — Marking the object with 가
✖ 커피가 마셔요.
✔ 커피를 마셔요.커피 is the thing being drunk, so it is the object and takes 를. The particle 가 marks a subject, which is the one who does something or has a state.
❌ Mistake 4 — Using 이/가 with 좋아하다
✖ 김치가 좋아해요.
✔ 김치를 좋아해요.좋아하다 is a verb and its object takes 을/를. Only the adjective 좋다 goes with 이/가, as in 날씨가 좋아요.
❌ Mistake 5 — Using 을/를 with 좋다
✖ 날씨를 좋아요.
✔ 날씨가 좋아요.좋다 means "to be good", so 날씨 is the subject, not an object. Use 이/가 here. If you want to say "I like the weather", use the verb 좋아하다 and write 날씨를 좋아해요.
