Building Syllables — 글자 만들기
Korean letters are not written in a line like English. They are packed into square blocks, and each block is one syllable. In this lesson you learn where the consonant and the vowel go inside a block, how to read a block, and how to read your first real words.
1. Why learn this
In English you write letters one after another, like c-a-t. Hangul works differently. You stack the consonant and the vowel into one small square, and that square is one syllable.
This is the lesson where the alphabet becomes real reading. You already know 10 vowels and 14 consonants. Now you learn the one rule that joins them, and you can read hundreds of syllables.
The rule is short and has no exceptions. Look at the vowel shape, and you know where the consonant goes. After a little practice, you will read each block at a glance.
